Focuslight’s Engineered V-Groove Array Wins Innovative Technology Award at the Infostone Awards

January 16, 2026, Focuslight’s engineered V-Groove array has been awarded the Innovative Technology Award at the Infostone Awards. This award is organized by Infostone, one of China’s leading media platforms dedicated to the optical communications industry.

The award recognizes Focuslight’s innovation and manufacturing excellence in high-channel-count, high-precision fiber array coupling, highlighting the company’s growing influence in next-generation optical communication technologies.

The award was presented during the IFOC Infostone Optical Communications Annual Forum and the 2025 Infostone Awards Ceremony, held in Dongguan, China. Mr. York Tian, Vice President of Focuslight’s Laser Optics Business Unit, attended the event and accepted the award on behalf of the company.

Award-Winning Product

The new engineered V-Groove array is designed for high-channel-count applications, including co-packaged optics (CPO), optical modules, fiber connectors, PLC splitters for FTTx networks, and arrayed waveguide gratings (AWG) in WDM systems. With enhanced design flexibility and manufacturing precision, the solution meets the stringent requirements placed on core optical components in high-speed optical communication systems.

Leveraging wafer-level precision manufacturing, Focuslight simultaneously processes all V-grooves across an entire wafer. Even at 48, 96, or higher channel counts, the cumulative pitch error from the first to the last fiber is controlled to below 500 nm, significantly improving fiber array alignment accuracy and coupling efficiency while reducing optical signal transmission losses.

The product also features a variable V-groove architecture, supporting V- and U-shaped grooves, convex, concave, and freeform geometries. Different angles and pitches can be implemented within a single array and precisely matched to microlens array (MLA) pitches, addressing complex optical system requirements while maintaining assembly-friendly designs. Integrated mechanical positioning features further enable passive alignment and high-precision assembly, achieving tight integration of structural and functional elements.

In terms of materials, Focuslight’s V-groove arrays support Borofloat 33, fused silica, S-TIH53, S-BSL7 (and comparable materials such as N-BK7), and silicon. Ceramic and other non-toxic optical glass materials are also available upon request, extending the product’s applicability across diverse use cases.

Focuslight, guided by the philosophy of “Micro-Optics Without Limits,” has built a comprehensive portfolio of micro-optics manufacturing platforms. These include Photolithography-RIE (reactive ion etching), Wafer-Level Simultaneously Structuring, Precision Glass Molding, and Wafer-Level Optics Precision Imprinting. Within an integrated global manufacturing system, these platforms enable end-to-end solutions – from design and validation to volume production for applications such as pluggable optical modules, FAUs, OCS, PICs, while empowering the roadmaps and ecosystems of CPO, NPO, and OIO.

Looking ahead, Focuslight will continue to leverage its platform-based technologies and scalable manufacturing capabilities to support the optical communications industry’s transition toward higher density, higher performance, and greater manufacturability.
