Focuslight Launches LCS Series 980/1470nm Conduction-Cooled Diode Laser with High Power Output, Low Thermal Resistance and Low Smile

Xi’an, China – [January 9, 2025] – Focuslight launched its brand new LCS series 980/1470nm conduction-cooled diode laser. Featuring its outstanding performance on high power output, low thermal resistance and low smile, the new LCS series represents a significant breakthrough in high-power diode laser technology, offering cutting-edge solutions for various application fields including scientific research, laser equipment manufacturing, biomedical applications, precision ranging, and LiDAR systems.

Technical Innovation and Exceptional Performance

The newly launched LCS series with 100W output at 980nm and 30W output at 1470nm feature conduction cooling designs based on Focuslight’s proprietary bonding technology, which significantly enhanced the performance and reliability of GaAs and InP-based diode lasers. Compared to indium soft solder or AuSn hard solder bonding techniques, our innovative bonding approach addresses various challenges such as thermoelectric migration, fatigue resistance and thermal resistance, achieving an ideal balance of low stress, low thermal resistance, and ultra-low Smile effects.

The LCS Series employs GaAs and InP-based diode laser bar chips with a 20% fill factor, 19 emitters, and a cavity length of 2.0mm. The thermal rollover power reaches CW 180W@190A for 980nm products, and CW 50W@125A for 1470nm products, ensuring stable long-term operation even under conditions of wide pulse width (>100ms) and high duty cycle. Compared to conventional bonding methods, the innovative bonding technology used in the LCS Series improves the output power by over 30% and reduces thermal resistance by 20%, setting a new benchmark for performance and reliability of the diode laser products worldwide.

Ultra-Low Smile Effect for Superior Beam Quality

For bar-based diode lasers, the Smile effect refers to the bending or warping of the chip due to packaging-induced stress, which results in emitter misalignment along the straight line and significantly impacts downstream applications like beam shaping and fiber coupling. The LCS Series demonstrates exceptional control over the Smile effect, with an average Smile value of just 0.56μm, where over 90% of the Smile measurements below 1μm. This surpasses conventional bonding techniques, providing even greater flexibility and precision for optical design, enabling superior results in beam shaping and fiber coupling applications.
