OFC Conference | Arrayed high performance optical circulators

On Monday, 31st March 2025, from 10:30-12:30 PST, Dr.?Chun He, Chief Scientist at Focuslight, is delivering a presentation at OFC conference 2025 on the topic of “Arrayed High Performance Optical Circulators”.

Abstract:

Focuslight Technologies collaborated with its partner, has successfully developed the world's first 8-channel optical circulator array using innovative integrated optical design. It incorporates a high-precision microlens array aligned with miniature optical components, including a bismuth-substituted YIG thin-film crystal and a rare-earth magnet.

Compared to conventional single-channel circulators, the 8-channel circulators exhibit lower insertion loss between input and output ports and higher isolation between the input and other ports. The array achieves isolation greater than 50dB, insertion loss of 0.41dB, and polarization-dependent loss of just 0.002dB across all 8 channels. The compact circulator array?is?highly advantageous for wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) and photonic integrated circuits (PIC) applications due to its low insertion loss, minimal polarization dependence, high isolation, and significantly reduced footprint. To the best of our knowledge, such an arranged optical circulator has not been reported prior to this work.
